The legendary United States Olympic Hockey coach, Herb Brooks famously said to his team that “great moments are born from great opportunity.”  With more data available today than ever before, we have a great opportunity. In order create a great moment and take advantage of this opportunity, one needs the skills to properly make sense of data and clearly communicate statistical analyses.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to begin developing these skills. You will start by learning how to formulate excellent research questions. You will then learn the foundational elements of statistics and how to utilize technology to produce professional visualizations and analytics using real-world data from a variety of industries. The course will culminate in a project that requires you to combine your newly formed statistical knowledge and technological and communications skills. With these new skills, you will be well prepared for future statistics courses and related work.
