Jumpstart to Physics (On-Site)
August 20-23, 2018, 9 am - 12:45 pm (Monday through Thursday)
Open to students entering grades 11-12
Course Credit: Not offered for credit
Are you taking physics next year? Would like an introduction to the topics in the class? This one-week course will provide an opportunity for students to learn more about every major topic introduced in first half of the physics curriculum: motion equations, Newton’s Laws, impulse & momentum, work & energy, and gravitational forces.
During class students will receive instruction on the material and have an opportunity to work with the material through discussions, collaborative work problem solving, and experiments.
There are no required materials for this course – all worksheets, labs, and instruction will be provided by the teacher.
Theresa Riedl, instructor
Theresa Riedl teaches physics and coding electives in the upper school. Her teaching philosophy is that students learn best through doing. Her classes are student focused and utilize a flipped-classroom structure to encourage students to ask questions and actively work through material once it is introduced. There is also an emphasis on technology to support the students through their learning experience. Theresa received her BA in physics and mathematics from the College of Wooster and has an MS in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
